Is it hard? Have you dug down to see if it’s really a tuber? We get something that looks similar in one of our beds and it’s a type of mushroom. Ours stinks like rotting flesh. That may be it, Laura. I haven’t dug down and I haven’t noticed a smell. But it is similarly shaped and a type of mushroom would make sense.
They showed up quickly and faded away almost as fast. Were probably around 5-7 days.
These are beautiful and the colors of strawberries. I’ll let you know if I find out anything else!
